Why Did I Create This Website?

Print

The reason for this site is to provide a central location where Linux users can go to get information and the things they need/want in a central location.

When I first became a Linux user, I loved the stability of Linux, but I didn't have a clue where to find the things I needed for my everyday Linux needs. Information was just not very good. As time went on, I eventually found what I was looking for, but it was like getting a root canal without anything to numb the pain!

Film Reviews, a different perspective

Quantum of Solace

My viewing of the film Quantum of Solace and then reading many reviews and blogs gave me pause for thought.

In my humble opinion, the reviewers just seem a) to not have the ability to "connect the dots".... and b) they either have not internalized, or possibly never even heard of. ..... Marshal McLuhan's dictum... "The MEDIUM is the MASSAGE."(for those who haven't experienced the work, the word is MAssage as in a backrub/play on words"...

Yes, they probably know "a lot about films".....but they don't seem to be able, at least to me, seem to put it into..."context"...

This review, and possibly others.....will be an attempt to...... put the film, and others, into the context of experience....

First Review: Quantum of Solace.

My Story As a Linux User

Print

My story begins with Red Hat 5.2. My original intent was to "learn" more about non-Windoze systems. I had some experience with Macintosh systems, but there was this new system that some of the geeks I hung around with told me about called Linux. They talked about all of the interesting things they could do with it, and how much they had learned as a result of using it. So I thought I'd give it a try.

KOffice Suite and How to migrate to "open documents" painlessly.

The new user to Linux is usually overwhelmed with the almost limitless possibilities available to him or her.  However, one of the "first stops" is the "office suite"... The default office suite for a lot of the major distributions which want to try to go "mainstream" to "accommodate the new user from Windows"...is Sun Microsystem's Open Office.

Open Office is an almost complete "dropin" replacement for Microsoft Office.

But.........you really should check out.......Koffice.......... really........ :)
